With Beauty and Sorrow is a 1965 Japanese drama film directed by Masahiro Shinoda. It is based on the novel Beauty and Sadness (1961–63) by Nobel Prize winning writer Yasunari Kawabata. When the man who seduced the famous painter Otoko as a teenager–and then wrote a bestselling novel about it–reappears in her life, her pupil–and lesbian lover–hatches a plot to destroy the man and his family.
